Tips for peeling boiled Garden Quail Eggs
All eggs become easier to peel if they are not too fresh – at least a week old is best. Garden Quail Eggs are particularly challenging because not only are they tiny, but also they have a very tough membrane.
If you want hard or soft boiled Garden Garden Quail Eggs, they will be easier to manage if they are fairly near their ‘best before’ date. Our eggs are all packaged within 24 hours of being laid and the ‘best before’ date is a maximum of 4 weeks after that – often nearer 3 weeks.
Try tapping the boiled egg on a hard surface such as a chopping board, then rolling it gently until the shell is crazed all over. If you then start peeling at the rounded end, you should find hat the whole shell will peel off in a spiral. The handle of a coffee spoon dipped in water can be useful if the membrane does not want to come away. Just slide it between the white and the membrane and ease gently upwards. Any small specks of shell left on the egg can be rinsed off in cool water after peeling.
